Hopkins Biostatistics Student Computing Club

Our group gives biostatistics students of all levels the opportunity to develop computing skills useful for statisticians. We offer one hour sessions every twice a month on topics in computing, usually hosted by faculty members in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. These sessions take place every other Friday from 12:00-1:15 in the Biostatistics Library, (our Student Journal Club meets on the alternate Fridays).

The topics covered in our sessions are flexible and open to student input. Some of the topics that students have suggested so far include the Unix / Linux environment, using the cluster (usher), creating R packages and documentation, emacs configuration for LaTeX / ESS, advanced topics in emacs, etc. We plan to address these and other topics at our lunch sessions throughout the course of this year. If you have further suggestions for topics, please send an email to Haley Hedlin or Bruce Swihart.

Room: Biostatistics Library (room W3513 in the Bloomberg School of Public Health)
