Copy the package mathematica.tar.gz into your /usr/local/ directory.

Unzip and untar the package. This creates a subdirectory mathematica.

At the prompt on the machine where you run Mathematica, type

xset fp+ /usr/local/mathematica/SystemFiles/Fonts/Type1
xset fp+ /usr/local/mathematica/SystemFiles/Fonts/X
xset fp+ /usr/local/mathematica/SystemFiles/Fonts/AFM
xset fp rehash

You might get some error messages, but you should be able to run the
notebook.
